Armed attack on a Chinese company in Mali

An armed group attacked a Chinese construction company in Mali, and its warehouse and heavy machinery were burned.

According to a report by Radio France Internationale, the Chinese Foreign Construction Company Limited, which is building roads in western Mali, was attacked on May 24. The company's facilities near the road were targeted, and the warehouse and machinery, such as cranes and tractors, were burned.

According to the report, although the attackers were few, they had a blueprint of the company's site. Therefore, they quickly executed their plan and withdrew completely. Sources reported that the attackers' second goal was to take the company's Chinese managers hostage, but they were not present at the site at the time.

This is not the first attack by armed groups against Chinese companies in this region. Earlier this month, a Chinese-run mining area was also attacked by an armed group.

China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative is trapping many countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America in a debt trap and seizing control of critical transportation infrastructure. Its crimes, such as environmental pollution, harming the lives of local people, using Chinese workers, humiliating local workers, and plundering natural resources, have aroused intense public anger and led to various attacks and clashes.
