A U.S. Army intelligence analyst has admitted to providing China with sensitive information about U.S. weapons systems, military tactics, and strategy.
According to Voice of America news, Corben Schultz, the US Army's top-secret military officer, was arrested in March this year and pleaded guilty to spying for China on August 13.
The US Department of Justice said in a statement that Schultz had pleaded guilty to obtaining and disclosing national defense information, illegally providing defense equipment and related technical data to other countries, and bribing officials.
According to the documents, Schultz sold dozens of sensitive U.S. military documents to a Hong Kong-based man with ties to the Chinese regime. The military documents are related to issues such as the Ukraine-Russia war, the defense of Taiwan, military exercises in South Korea and the Philippines, as well as various US military systems.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for next year, and the military could face decades in prison.
In recent years, China's espionage activities and individuals in many countries, especially the United States, have been revealed successively, and the espionage network has reached the highest level of the country's institutions.
