A new armed alliance in Pakistan threatens China's Belt and Road Initiative

Armed forces demanding independence for the Balochistan region in Pakistan have formed a new army to confront Chinese interests in Pakistan.

According to Nikkei Asia on March 7, armed groups in Pakistan have united for the first time to form the Baloch National Army, which targets Chinese interests in the Balochistan region. This alliance, known as the "Baloch National Liberation Front," was formed with the aim of increasing the power of attacks on Chinese workers involved in construction projects in Pakistan and disrupting the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The main goal of establishing this alliance is to resist the plundering of local resources.

According to reports, the formation of this alliance represents a shift from tribal competition to a more centralized armed movement, which could lead to wider attacks against China. The alliance also plans to launch diplomatic initiatives to present its demands. However, there are concerns about the management and effectiveness of this alliance.

Pakistan has sought Chinese investments and aid to build the necessary infrastructure to exploit the resources of the impoverished Balochistan region. This Pakistani weakness aligns perfectly with President Xi Jinping's Belt and Road Initiative. However, since the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor passes through Balochistan, it faces strong opposition from separatist armed forces in the region.

According to available information, there were originally several organizations demanding local autonomy in Balochistan, and this time these armed groups have formed an alliance against China. They are moving against the Pakistani army, which is complicit with China in plundering Balochistan's natural resources. The Balochistan Liberation Army is also demanding China's withdrawal from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and other investments and the departure of Chinese workers from Pakistan.
