31 Maoist extremists killed in India

Dozens of Maoist extremists were killed by Indian security forces in central India.

According to CNN, at least 31 Maoist extremists were killed in violent clashes on February 9 in India's Chhattisgarh state, and two police officers were killed during the operation. This incident is considered the most serious clash in India this year.

Police and armed forces began an operation in the forested area after receiving intelligence about a gathering of Maoist extremists. When security forces searched the area, clashes broke out, resulting in casualties among both extremists and law enforcement. Two police officers were injured in the armed confrontation. The operation is still ongoing, and weapons and ammunition have been seized. This incident occurred a month after another major clash that resulted in 16 Maoist casualties.

According to available information, the Maoist extremist movement emerged in 1967 as a result of poor local communities' demands in central and northern India for job opportunities and natural resources. They drew inspiration from Mao Zedong's violent and bloody policies and have continued acts of violence against the government army and infrastructure for a long period.
