"The release of a Uyghur student in Egypt."

The Uyghur student Bilal Abdul Karim, who was held in an Egyptian prison for 170 days, has been released and safely arrived in Canada. A similar solution has been provided for Uyghur prisoners in Egypt to find stability in Canada.
This news is a positive development for the Uyghur people in East Turkistan (Xinjiang), as Bilal faced the risk of deportation to China, where he could have been detained, tortured, or even executed, similar to what has happened to Uyghurs previously deported to China.
Egyptian authorities have detained several Uyghur students, and some were previously handed over to Chinese authorities. Human rights organizations in Egypt have documented hundreds of Uyghur arrests, and 20 Uyghurs were reportedly deported in 2017, most of whom were students at Al-Azhar University.
Two years ago, Abdul Aziz revealed to AFP details about an incident in 2017 in Egypt, where over 90 Uyghur students were detained. He said, "They didn't mention our names or who we were exactly."
The campaign lasted for three days in the first week of July 2017, according to non-governmental organizations. At that time, Abdul Aziz was a student studying Islamic sciences at Al-Azhar University.
Abdul Aziz said that Egyptian police told them, "The Chinese government says you are terrorists, but we responded that we are just students at Al-Azhar."
Two weeks before their release, Uyghurs and other ethnically different Chinese Muslims were divided into three groups and given specific colors: red for those to be deported to China, green for those to be released, and finally yellow for those to be further questioned.
Egypt and China have significant economic ties, with China being one of the largest foreign investors in Egypt and investing in massive infrastructure projects such as the construction of a new administrative capital east of Cairo. The trade volume between the two countries reached a record $13.8 billion last year. Three weeks before the Egyptian security campaign, Egypt and China signed a security memorandum focusing on "counter-terrorism."
