"The Balochistan airport, funded by China, has been unable to start operations due to security reasons."

Although the new Chinese-funded airport in Pakistan's Balochistan province is fully completed, it has been unable to begin operations due to a shortage of passengers and security concerns.

According to CNN Türk's February 25 report, Pakistan's new Gwadar International Airport was built with China's $240 million investment and was completed in October 2024, but operations have not yet begun.

The airport is located in the impoverished Balochistan province and was built more as a safe passage route for Chinese citizens than as a travel option for local residents. Although the airport's annual passenger capacity is planned for 400,000 people, this annual plan has no practical significance for a region with only 90,000 residents and lacking basic infrastructure such as electricity and clean water sources.

It has been reported that due to the lack of job opportunities in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor connecting East Turkistan to Balochistan and the suppression of local people by the government, public discontent with the government has continuously intensified. This has led to long-standing armed resistance movements. The Pakistani government faces the challenge of strengthening security measures in the region while also addressing the needs of the local population.

In recent years, the Balochistan Liberation Army has taken action against China's railway construction in the region, killing many Chinese workers and engineers.

The Balochistan Liberation Army is the most powerful and destructive force among all armed organizations in the resource-rich Balochistan province and has claimed responsibility for almost all recent anti-Chinese attacks in the region.
