"New Report on Uyghur Forced Labor"

Senior Chinese researcher Dr. Adrian Zenz has released a new report titled "Innovations in Penal Labor: Xinjiang's 'Vocational Training Transformation' Through Labor." This report focuses on the forced labor of Uyghurs in occupied East Turkistan.
Published in a reputable academic journal, this report offers an analysis of the methods used by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to control and assimilate the Uyghur population in East Turkistan through the use of forced labor and so-called "reeducation camps."
The report highlights China's approach to reeducation and forced labor, including the "Vocational Skills Education and Training Centers" (VSETCs) in East Turkistan. Unlike previous labor reforms that intertwined work with reeducation, VSETCs focus on comprehensive reeducation and a gradual transition to non-prison jobs. This approach is suggested to serve the CCP's goal of assimilating Uyghurs and other Turkic ethnic groups, forcibly integrating them into Beijing's social structure, all while emphasizing economic sustainability as a fundamental element.
The study emphasizes the separation of reeducation and forced labor in the new "Vocational Training Transformation Through Labor" system, in contrast to the previous "Reeducation Through Labor" system. The report provides new evidence of a policy where those held in camps are gradually released to be placed in forced labor facilities, ultimately leading to increased productivity and allowing the continuation of forced labor even after the camps are closed. Witness testimonies from individuals in East Turkistan, as presented in the report, confirm the long working hours and poor conditions in these facilities, validating the existence of a system of "free labor."
Dr. Zenz notes that the primary motivation behind VSETCs, as per the report, is driven by political agendas rather than economic ones. The report states, "The VSETC system is designed to overcome non-Han resistance against ideological and ethnocultural assimilation, as well as integration into a social order dominated by Han Chinese culture, managed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and providing higher economic sustainability achieved with greater profitability."
