"Introduction of the Southern Mongolia Human Rights Policy Bill"

US Lawmakers Introduce "Southern Mongolia Human Rights Policy Act" to Stop China's Oppression of Mongolians

According to France International Radio on February 2nd, in addition to focusing on human rights issues in Tibet, East Turkistan, and Hong Kong, US lawmakers have also drawn attention to the human rights situation of the Mongolian ethnic group in territories occupied by China.

The report stated that on January 29th, Representative Jeff Merkley from Oregon and Representative Dan Sullivan from Alaska jointly introduced a bill titled "Southern Mongolia Human Rights Policy Act" addressing human rights issues of Mongolians in Chinese-occupied territories.

The primary goal of the bill is to include support and protection of Mongolian culture and language in US policy to improve the human rights situation of local populations.

Merkley stated in his remarks: "While Beijing continues to suppress the rights and culture of minorities, America must strongly support those fighting for basic freedoms." He added: "The Southern Mongolia Human Rights Policy Act demonstrates that America will not tolerate the Chinese government's attempts to erase Mongolian language, culture, and identity."

Sullivan commented: "The Chinese Communist Party not only conspires against global interests and vital American industries but also violates internationally recognized human rights worldwide, including in Southern Mongolia." He further noted: "The plight of Southern Mongolian people resembles that of other ethnicities and religions in Chinese-occupied territories, who are forced into 're-education' camps, denied religious freedom and mother tongue usage, forcibly displaced, and subjected to forced labor."

The lawmakers emphasized their continued attention to the persecution of various ethnic groups in Chinese-occupied territories, including Tibetans, Uyghurs, and Christians.
