US annual report focuses on China's crimes

The annual report on China released by the US Congressional Executive Committee on China focuses on the ongoing forced labor of Western companies in Xinjiang, China’s forced organ harvesting and other human rights abuses.

According to the relevant report of the Voice of America, the US Congressional Executive Committee on China (CECC) released its 2024 report on the human rights situation and the rule of law in China on December 20. The main focus of the report is on the ongoing human rights abuses in China, especially forced labor in the supply chain.

In a statement, the chairman of the China Executive Committee, Republican Representative Christopher Smith, and the committee’s co-chairman, Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley, said: “The work of the committee staff is important in highlighting the serious problems in China’s compliance with international human rights standards.” The report revealed the existence of forced labor in companies’ supply chains and in US government procurement sources.

In addition to the US House of Representatives’ China Affairs Committee’s focus on forced labor, the Chinese Communist regime’s crime of “organ harvesting” was mentioned 16 times in the summary section of the report and 42 times in the entire report.

In 2024, the US House of Representatives’ China Affairs Committee held a hearing entitled “What Can Be Done to End China’s Crime of Internal Organ Harvesting?” The meeting examined issues related to China’s internal organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners and Uyghurs.

The 315-page annual report also mentioned the continued worsening of China’s human rights and freedoms in 2024. The report detailed China’s crackdown on civil rights in various areas, including restrictions on freedom of expression, freedom of religion, and freedom of civil society, discrimination, abuse and human trafficking in the judiciary and law enforcement, and abuse of workers’ rights. In particular, China’s human rights abuses in regions such as East Turkestan, Tibet, Hong Kong, and Macao were highlighted as key areas.

The report also mentions the detention and imprisonment of researchers, journalists, and activists, including Professor Dr. Rachel David, on political and religious grounds.

The report reveals that over the past year, the Chinese communist regime has continued to control or fragment civil society, restrict freedom of speech, the press, and the Internet, and has continued to harass, arrest, and imprison people participating in demonstrations and other peaceful gatherings.

The report also states that China has continued to tighten its control over religious activities, arresting 2,764 people, including 678 Tibetan Buddhists, 497 Falun Gong practitioners, 245 Muslims, and 86 Christians.
